A Spectrum of Rainbow Fountain Pens!

Quick Notes about the Namisu Horizon Petrol

I received my Namisu Horizon Petrol fountain pen yesterday, which has a lovely frosted white pen body with rainbow anodized accents and section. I was excited to find this pen because I bought a Radius Prisma from Stilo et Stile last year with a similar design and really like it. (Maybe someday I will find a Leonardo Prisma that I missed before.) Also, it’s reasonably priced.

Since I’ve only had it for less than 24 hours, I don’t have a review ready, but I will say that its pen body has a smoother, more satin texture than the Radius Prisma’s frosted and matte textured body. I was hoping it would feel more like the Radius, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

The metal section does not feel slick to me. It has micro ridges, seen below, which likely help to maintain your grip, but they’re not really that noticeable when you’re holding the pen. It just feels like a secure metal grip.

As you sort of see in the picture above, this pen has a Bock nib. It is my first (that I know of). I got an extra-fine since I have plenty of fines and mediums, but I may want to get other Bock nibs to swap in for variety (assuming I can swap nibs; I haven’t looked into that yet).

The Rainbow Collection

As the post title alludes, I have a small, but hopefully growing, collection of rainbow-anodized fountain pens. You can see them below in chronological order of acquisition.

From left to right:

  • Hongdian Rainbow Forest, fude nib

  • Laban Skeleton Rainbow, Kaigelu long blade nib (3rd-party swap)

  • TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris, medium nib

  • Stilo et Stile x Radius Prisma, fine flex nib

  • Namisu Horizon Petrol, extra-fine nib

Each pen had different design approaches to “rainbow-ing”, with some even adding rainbow-colored or rainbow-accented nibs.

Here’s a comparison of the two frosted/rainbow accented pens. The Radius Prisma went all out, even anodizing the metal parts of the converter, which makes for a cool visual showing through the pen body. I kind of wish the Namisu had a rainbow clip or roll stop to further its rainbowsity.

Searching for More

If you happen to know of other rainbow-anodized pens, especially if they use the frosted white body combo, please let me know. This is one theme I’m definitely looking to build out in my collection. 🌈
