Diamine Inkvent 2023, Day 1

Today’s been a bit of a lazy day, so my first day of Inkvent swatching is off to a late start. 🙂 To give you some idea of what to expect, I’ll be swatching the inks on the Tomoe River paper “cards” that will end up in my ink swatch library. I’ll also be writing a quote from a Christmas episode of my favorite TV shows, or a Christmas-y movie (I liked doing this for my 30 inks project) in a standard sized Traveler’s Notebook insert with white MD paper. You’ll also see the Inkvent stand get populated with the ink bottles as we progress through the season!

The Ink

Day 1: Fortune’s Gold - Chameleon

Starting off with a shimmer bang, Fortune’s Gold is a lemony yellow with yellow gold shimmer that may look different at another angle. I think it may be a gold or light greenish shimmer depending on how you look at it, but it’s hard to catch on camera. The scans of the swatches below minimize the look of the shimmer, but you can see the bling better in the macro photos further down.

My Thoughts on the Ink

This is okay. I prefer sunny yellows with a tinge of orange. This particular lemon yellow has a tint of brown and/or green that make it look a bit “dirty” to me. At the moment, I don’t envision using this much when writing, but for a watercolor sketch needing a light yellow, this could be alright.

P.S. For any shimmer inks, I will also swatch them without shaking the bottle to minimize the shimmer and focus on the base ink color.

The Quote

From The Office (US), Season 2, Christmas Party:

Kevin: Why did you get it so big?

Michael: A: That’s what she said, and B: I wanted it to be impressive. Biggest day of the year deserves the biggest tree of the year.

This text suffers from the lack of audio and acting in the original episode, but I had to pick this one anyway! You’ll see several more quotes from this episode sprinkled throughout Inkvent, as there were a ton of funny snippets in this one episode. 😀

This scan doesn’t capture the shimmer

Bonus Images

These macro shots are from my older Olympus TG-3 that has an awesome macro mode and a diffused LED light. Someday I want to get the latest upgraded version, the TG-6.

Inkvent tree has been christened! 🥳
