Diamine Inkvent 2023, Day 25

The Ink

Day 25: Raise a Glass

I don’t know about you, but I almost always feel a bit blindsided by Christmas Eve and Christmas finally arriving. You wait and wait all December (and the last half or third of November, really), and then they get here and it’s like, “Whoa, seriously, already??” This was already how discombobulated I felt before the last 3 years of “time means nothing anymore” added to my time confusion. 😵‍💫

Anyway! Raise a Glass is a super dark purple leaning towards the violet end of the spectrum with green-gold shimmer and golden sheen.

I only have 2 years of Inkvent under my belt now, so I don’t know if the last ink of the set was always a super dark ink, but last year’s 25th ink, Best Wishes, was a very dark green with a ton of sheen and shimmer. It’s that type of dark ink that basically looks black, and therefore is not something I really like.

If only we always had a spotlight on our swatches and writing so that we could see dark colors clearly and be dazzled by shimmer inks! Alas, it isn’t so.

Even these swatch scans show the base color brighter than it is when you look at it yourself, but I wanted to show off the base color and sheen that is really apparent in the no-shimmer swatch. You’ll see how the ink appears more realistically in the quote at the end of the post.

Among my inks, Troublemaker’s Lam-Ang looks the closest to the base color + sheen.

Last year’s Inkvent had a super dark purple with greenish-gold shimmer, Solar Storm, but the base purple is cooler, leaning more blue, and less saturated. Also, the black (?) sheen is so aggressive that it overwhelms the base color.

Diamine Pansy has a similar purple + gold sheen look, but its base is more magenta-purple. Pansy is supposedly a look-alike for the famous, discontinued Lamy Dark Lilac ink, but having never seen or tried the Lamy, I don’t know how close Pansy is.

Finally, Wearingeul Soyoungwije is a purple shimmer, but it is more desaturated, with a strong silver shimmer and some dark sheen in ink pool areas.

The Quote

Today’s last quote is from The Office, “Christmas Party”. This episode has been the MVP of Inkvent quotes, contributing 6 quotes. Here, Michael Scott has a voiceover at the end of a roller coaster of a Christmas office party, as they’re headed to an afterparty at Poor Richard’s.

Michael: Christmas is awesome. First of all, you get to spend time with people you love. Secondly, you can get drunk and no one can say anything. Third, you give present. What’s better than giving presents? And fourth, getting presents. So, four things. Not bad for one day. It’s really the greatest day of all time.

In this writing sample you can see how dark the ink is, and how most of the time, it’ll appear close to black. It’s not my favorite look. Perhaps in finer, drier nibs more of the purple can show through. I’ll have to experiment.

Well, Inkvent is done! I’ll post a recap/analysis of sorts soon, so we’re not fully putting Inkvent away yet. Hope you all had a relaxing, enjoyable holiday break!
