The Ink

Day 3: Early Dusk - Standard

This is a deceptively simple-looking medium blue with maybe a tiny bit of gray? I’ve heard others mention it has some green tones or leaning green, but I don’t perceive it. I thought that because I have several blue inks, especially ones that are dusky, it would be a close match to something I already have, but surprisingly it’s not.

Below are swatches of the Ancora-exclusive Sailor collaboration ink that they only sell in Tokyo on rainy days (how quirky!) on the left, and Pilot Iroshizuku shin-kai on the right. They’re the closest dusky blue inks I have, but the Sailor is more blue-gray, while the Pilot is darker and more of a purplish blue-gray. The Sailor ink is comparable in the translucent appearance and shading, though. I really like the translucence of Early Dusk that helps highlight its shading properties. Even though it’s maybe a bit of a “boring” blue to others, I love it. I’m excited to put it into a wider nib to show off the shading. The long blade nib in my nib holder already does a good job of that.

The Quote

Here’s a quote from Parks and Rec’s first Christmas episode, Christmas Scandal:

Leslie: …and I am proud to announce for the first time ever this year, our tree-lighting ceremony will be simulcast on internet radio. [weak applause] Thank you.

Tom: That’s a really big deal.

Leslie [not detecting the sarcasm]: It is, thank you.

Tom: Listening to that tree lighting’s gonna be dope!

Oh, Leslie. 😆
