The Ink

Day 4: Masquerade - Shimmer

Masquerade is pinky-brown with strong gold shimmer. In the scan the shimmer doesn’t show up well, but in the picture I took I used an angle that emphasizes the gold bling. I also made a swatch without shaking the bottle to see the base ink color with as little shimmer as possible.

The pinky-brown ink reminded me of a more recent addition to my ink library, Van Dieman’s Bengal Tiger Blaze, one of their feline series inks.

But, as you can see, Masquerade is much browner. The edges of heavy application look very dark brown, almost black, while the edges of heavy application for Bengal Tiger Blaze remain a pink-brown, just a tad darker. Bengal Tiger Blaze also has more of a coppery shimmer that matches the base ink’s shade, vs. the strong gold shimmer that contrasts with the base ink for Masquerade.

I feel a bit mixed on this shade, because when there isn’t much shimmer in the writing, as you’ll see below, the base ink is kind of ehhhh, IMO. I’m not a fan of the pink and brown combo, with or without the shimmer. While I’m a bit mixed on the Bengal Tiger Blaze, too, I prefer it a little more than Masquerade because of the coppery shimmer.

The Quote

We’re going back to the Christmas Party episode of The Office (US):

Michael: Presents are the best way to show someone you care. It is like this tangible thing that you can point to and say, “Hey, man, I love you this many dollars’ worth.

OMG, Michael… 🤦‍♀️

I am not the best at picking doodles to accompany these quotes.
